CID party activist threatened and arbitrarily detained



Arelis is a delegate of the Independent and Democratic Cuba party (CID) in the town of Nilda, in the municipality of San Juan and Martínez. Arelis was presented on March 22, 2017 at 9:00 am in the Police Unit as a response to the verbal summons made by Alexander Márquez Izquierdo, head of sector in that area. She was interrogated by Captain Oreste Ayala, head of the State Security of the municipality, who threatened her to take her to prison for having blamed the government institutions from the abandonment of two social cases and making known the case of an 11-year-old boy who died of fulminant illness after the doctors delayed his attention. During the interrogation, they called her "bad mother" and "mercenary" and they issues an official warning for her. Arelis was released at 1 pm under threats of starting a legal process to take her daughter and bringing her to prison if she continued her activities at the CID.
