Woman from Las Tunas detained and beaten by police without any reason

In the morning, 19 September 2018, Karen García Meriño was on her way home along with her friend Danyan Arletis Cabrera. When they were crossing the street, trying to avoid a street fight which was taking place there, they were detained by police. Karen tried to explain the misunderstanding and told the police that she was at her 10th week of pregnancy. However, they were taken to the 2nd Unit of the National Revolutionary Police in Las Tunas and beaten up by officials Wilber Barban Ortiz and Captain Ennolis Espinoza Molina. Before their release, they were fined 1000 pesos.
