On 27 November 2019 at 8:30 am, the lawyer José Ernesto Morales Estrada arrived at the police station in Pinar del Río as instructed. The day before at night, two men, who claimed to be investigators, summoned verbally José Ernesto to the police station. Two hours after his arrival, his relatives started to be worried and they decided to call to the police station to learn more about what happened. However, the police officers said that they did not know anything about him. After that, several phone calls were made to the provincial investigation center. The reply was that José Ernesto was not there and they did not know about his wehereabouts. At about 7 pm, one local said that he had seen a patrol car with José Ernesto inside, heading to the center investigating crimes against the state security. José Ernesto's family decided to go there. Once they arrived, they were informed that he had beed detained for the crime of fencing. He was released on the next day after he was labeled as a deliquent, having been psychologically harmed.
