Man detained at the checkpoint in Caimanera



On March 12, 2016, an activist Yeider Fuentes Arias was going to Mass in the Santuario del Cobre in Santiago de Cuba province. The Mass was being conducted to demand the release of political prisoners and the end of political repression in Cuba. At 6 am, Yeider was detained at the checkpoint in Caimanera by police and State Security officials Cantillo and Montalvo. He was driven to the Police Department in Caimanera where he was kept until 9 am. He was threatened he would be accused of public disorder and would go to jail. He was also told that he was not allowed to travel to Guantánamo on Saturdays. This was denounced on Radio Martí and by Associated Press (AP).
