On the morning of 20Th August, the activist of the Eastern Democratic Alliance, Fernando Lafita Azahares, was having a conversation with the delegate of the area where he lives who was claiming some construction materials that should have been given to him but had been given to someone else. At that time, two officers of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) were passing by and asked the delegate if anything was wrong. The delegate told them that the activist was insulting him. As a result, the activist was detained by three PNR officers and was taken to the unit where he was held for ten days under investigation and charged with an alleged crime of threatening a public official. The activist was released ten days after the same delegate withdrew the accusation against the activist. Prior to his release, he was fined $300 Cuban pesos (£10) for the alleged crime of public disorder and a warning was issued for meeting at home "with people against revolutionaries of dubious morals”.
