On 1 April 2015, an activist from the Cuban Patriotic Union (UNPACU), Alexei Brizo la Era, was in the UNPACU headquarters in Guantánamo. Suddenly, a paramilitary working for the government appeared in the premises and started to throw stones, which he had ready in his bag, against the activists who were present. During this incident, two activists were injured and Alexei Brizo was one of them. After that, he had to be received in the hospital. After the examination, he was given a medical certificate which confirmed the injury he had been caused.
