Felix and his daughter were beaten and detained due to their intention of placing flowers to the José Martí

Since early morning, officers of the political police set up an operation team near to the Félix Navarro Rodríguez's house. At 3:50 p.m. Navarro and his daughter left their home to go to Parque Marti with the intention of placing flowers to the "Apóstol" (José Martí), due to the 164th anniversary of his birth. When they were on the Central Highway, they were stopped by Major of the political police Orlando Figueroa Betancourt. He told Felix that they could not continue and that they had to get in a car Lada with plate number P153 600. Felix answered that he would not get in that particular car, so they should sent for a patrol car. Kenny Aguero, another officer from the city of Cárdenas, started to argue with Felix. The activist began explaining to the neighbors and bystanders the reasons for which they were detaining them. The officers tried to silence him. In another quarrel, Kenny Aguero punched him in the mouth and forehead. All this opened Navarro's old injury on his left leg. Both were immediately put in the car Lada and driven to the Police Station in the municipality of Jovellanos. After two hours of being at the police station, he was taken to the hospital, but there was no orthopedic attendant. Before being released, Major Alfredo López issued a warning and imposed a fine of $ 30 pesos in National Currency (1 euro). At 7:30 p.m was released, in the municipality of Jovellanos, 18 kilometers from his hometown.
