Man Detained for Doing a Favor for Activist

Royli Rodriguez Mariño lives on the same block as the headquarters of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) in Guantanamo. UNPACU headquarters were under siege by the political police starting on May 14, with patrol cars blocking corners and crosswalks. On May 15, Royli was on his way to buy a pack of cigarettes when one of the UNPACU activists asked him to buy a pack of cigarettes for him as well. Officers followed Royli, detained him, and took him to the operations unit, warning him not to do more favors for the activists.
