A case of a detained man fined for alleged and unverified theft (Colombia)



The citizen Osiel Mestre García was in his home at approximately 8:45 pm ready to eat when the captain and chief sector reached the door of the building and entered. At the police station he was questioned due to a theft. Captain Reynaldo insisted Osiel was the perpetrator despite the denial of Osiel. The captain proposed to Osiel that if he accepted the crime, everything was there and he is only obliged to pay minimum. Osiel refused captain's proposal, afterwards he was sent into the jail, but released at 11:00 pm, with the agreement presented the next day at 7:00 am. Tuesday 27 he was released under precautionary measure 200.00 pesos. On September 2 he was called to appear before court which sentenced him without evidence for committing the crime to two years' imprisonment subsidized by correctional work without internment paying 170.00 pesos in national currency.
