An activist detained for having tried to attend Mass (a case of Maria de las Mercedes)



Maria de las Mercedes was travelling with her husband. She intended to participate in the Mass Rici Catalina church in the municipality of Guantanamo. When she was passing the checkpoint located on 16th Street South, agents of the State Security police stopped the bus and forced her get of the bus. She was detained until the Mass was over. They threated to not let her attend Mass anymore.
