Maribel Alonso Martínez was detained by police officials and State Security agents when she was participating in a peaceful demonstration along with her brother. The participants were asking for freedom in Cuba and food for its people. Maribel was violently detained, beaten and injured on her arms and back. After that she was driven to the police station known as Parque 24 where she was kept in detention for more than 46 hours. There she was also fined 3000 pesos. She was warned that if she kept doing the same, she would be prosecuted.
