José Lino Ascencio López was detained, together with other activists, in the morning on Estrada Palma street, in the city of Santa Clara.
López and his colleagues were going to an event to commemorate the events that occured on August 5th 1994, commonly known as El Maleconazo.
Maleconazo is the name of a series of anti-government emonstrations on August 5th 1994, considered some of the most prominent since the beginning of the Cuban Revolution. The incidents started after the Cuban authorities intercepted four ships that sailed to the coast of the United States without authorization.
The activist was approached by government allies, handcuffed, and put in police vehicle, which took him along different city streets before releasing him close to his home.
