Iván Rene Torres Reyes was participating in the Seminar for Democracy in Cuba held in Miami and sponsored by the Fundación Rescate Jurídica, through the Institute of Cuban and Cuban-American Studies (ICCAS) with the head of the University of Miami. Before he left for Miami, in his paperwork he stated that he would be attending an event held in Havana and that he needed authorization to participate in the event. However, the event was promoted on social media sites and the State Security communicated that fact to his work headquarters. As a result, he was informed that he would be dismissed from his duties, citing the regulation that provides for disciplinary measures for participating in international counterrevolutionary events that threaten the security of socialism in Cuba. In this way, they deprived him of his right to work, which was the only source of income for his household.
