George Turcas Azahares was detained by police officers and State Security agents when he was participating in a peaceful demonstration in Guantánamo. The participants of the protest were asking for freedom in Cuba and medicaments and food for its people. After his detention, he was driven in the patrol car no. 612 to the State Security unit known as Operations. There he was threatened and received an official warning. He was also fined 3000 pesos. After 72 hours in detention, he was released.
