Amauris was in a collective cab heading to Santiago de Cuba, where he wanted to attend a protest march Todos Marchamos carried out by UNPACU. When they got to Santa María, the police detained him and pushed him and other detained activists to the ground. He was kept like this for several hours and then the police put him into another car and drove him to the National Revolutionary Police in Julio Antonio Mella. He was threatened with death if he continued his activities in UNPACU.
