Lady in White detained after having participated in the monthly meeting



Lourdes Esquivel Vieyto was detained at 8:30 pm after she had participated in the monthly meeting carried out by the Ladies in White. When she was leaving the national headquarters, she took a taxi along with two her colleagues in order to get home. On their way, the taxi was stopped by national police officers and secret police agents. The Ladies in White were obliged to get off the car and were put in patrol cars. The officers also took their mobile phones. They were driven in front of the police station in Santiago de las Vegas where they were kept inside the car for 4 hours. During that time, they were being taken one by one to the police station and all their personal belongings were confiscated, including money. In case of Lourdes Esquivel, it was 95 CUC (85€) and 45 CUP (1,80€) without receiving any proof about the confiscation. Lourdes Esquivel Vieyto was released at 11:30 pm on the same day near her house. On that day, 10 Ladies in White in total were detained.
