At 4:00 a.m., the home of a Cuban citizen was suddenly surrounded by police officers in conjunction with a Public Health official, in order to conduct a search of his property. The agents did not show any document allowing such an inspection but said that the operation was related to a case of cattle theft and slaughter. The officers took advantage of the situation to seize seven pounds of coffee beans, which were intended for the family consumption of the Cuban citizen they were inspecting. When they finished, the health official fined him 200 CUP for having attended to them without a mask and took him to the first unit of the PNR of Bayamo, where he was detained for 30 hours. Before being released, he was again fined 1500.00 CUP, for the crime of hoarding. The citizen later demanded the amount of the fines but did not receive an answer and had to pay the amount of both fines, so as not to be criminally prosecuted for non-payment.
