A prisoner having AIDS detained being judged for a crime which he did not commit (Bayamo)



In 2013 Yorisbel Castillo Reyes AIDS patient was charged and prosecuted for alleged lewd abuse of a 14 year old Yorisbel's niece. She said Yorisbel had penetrated her with his penis, which was ratified as tested without having verified by the medical tribunal. The blood test was negative: the victim has not infected with HIV. Yorisbel was sentenced to three years of imprisonment by the Municipal Court of Bayamo. In the night of the alleged crime the supposed victim was sleeping in the house of Yorisbel in the same bed with another guy - a friend of the family - who denied that Yorisbel had approached her at any time of the night. The mother of the victim made a complaint to the police. Currently Yorisbel is detained in CUBA. The sanitary conditions are terrible. They did not permit him CD4 exams despite being in a critical fasis being ill and currently infected with dengue. They give them spoiled food, there is not enough medication in prison. Most of the medical team is inexperienced. There are outbreaks of cholera and dengue in prison which increases the danger to the lives of inmates. In October 2015 Yorisbel's wife applied for a parole before the Court, but her request was denied.
