A journalist from Camagüey detained and beaten up when heading to join protests



Geovanis Cepúlveda Martínez was detained by a State Security (DSE) agent and special troops (Boinas Rojas) on 11 July, 2021, at about 2 pm on the Francisquito Street in Camagüey. Cepúlveda Martínez was just on his way to join the protest carried out by locals. The mentioned officials beat him up and put him by force to the patrol car. Then they drove him to the DSE section of the 3rd Police Unit of Monte Carlos. There he was kept without any food throughout the whole arrest period. He neither received a medical assistance he asked for due to the pain in his chest. Cepúlveda Martínez was released on 14 July at about 3 pm under the restriction of movement more than 100 meters from his house and gathering with other people. He was also prohibited from doing the shopping and receiving and paying visits for several days.
