11J protester who was arrested was beaten after refusing to wear a regulation uniform after claiming he was innocent

Carlos Manuel Pupo Rodríguez, president of PUNCLI, was imprisoned for protesting on June 11 in the municipality of San Antonio de los Baños, Artemisa province. He was sentenced to 6 years in prison for the alleged crimes of contempt and attempt. On June 4 he was summoned to the office of Internal Order, to the prison headquarters, where he was told that if he did not wear the regulation uniform he would face consequences. The political prisoner argued that he was innocent, as were all the detainees in the 11J demonstrations, and refused to wear it, for which he was beaten and taken to the punishment cell by orders of the headquarters.
