Julio Salazar was on his way to the Basilica of Santuario del Cobre in order to attend a peaceful march called Todos Marchamos, an activity carried out by the Cuban Patriotic Union (UNPACU). When he was already in the city of Palma Soriano, waiting for other vehicles and activists, he was detained by State Security agents and taken to the police unit known also as Confrontation. There he was threatened and later on put by force in a bus. Then he was driven outside the city, on a hill near the Dos Río Prison, and left to his fate.
