Roberto González Ibáñez intened to travel to Ecuador to learn about some programs that would give him the opportunity to work as a doctor there.
However, customs agents of the "José Martí" international airport prevented him from traveling, claiming that he was part of a group of professionals prevented from leaving the country. Roberto asserts that he has not worked in any hospital that serves the ruling elite or hanles any classified information, which would be an impediment to leaving Cuba. In addition, a lieutenant colonel from the Department of Attention to National Immigration, located on 22nd St. between 5th and 7th, assured him that he was not regulated by the Ministry of the Interior. After getting a passport and a visa to travel, Roberto discovered that the Ministry of Public Health had restricted his exit from the country for supposedly knowing a secret that not even Roberto is aware of. In addition to being prevented from traveling to Ecuador, he was fired from his workplace with the threat of his permanent disqualification as a doctor.
