Ernesto Darian Dufos attended a peaceful protest at Yoelkis Rosabal's home to demand the release of the young law student and fellow member of the UNPACU, Yohannes Arce Sarmiento.
The participants were arrested on May 15, 2014 by officers of the State Security and the riot squad, who violently entered the house of Rosabal breaking the furniture, after a paramilitary known as Dioni Iren Perez had thrown a burning bottle, where many people and military were gathered, in order to facilitate the arrest of UNPACU activists.
Initially, they were charged with attempted murder, due to alleged cocktail molotov thrown at an agent of the State Security. The accusation has been denied by the defendants and several witnesses. Because of the inconsistency of the charges, the prosecutor amended the cause and accused them of public disorder.
After more than five months of detention, the trial took place. Ernesto Darían Dufos was sentenced to two years in prison.
