Cesar Iván Mendoza Regal (Executive Director) and Erik Damián Machado Álvarez (Communication Director), both from the organization Center for the Study of Local Development (CEDEL), were sitting in Plaza de la Revolución working on the design of the website of the organization. By coincidence, the activist Manuel Silvestre Cuesta Morúa met them, so they held a brief conversation which lasted for only a few minutes. After Manuel Silvestre left, Cesar and Erik were approached by a State Security agent who identified himself as "Maikel" and took them in custody in a National Revolutionary Police patrol car to a station where they were detained for 6 hours in a cell. They made occupation act of everything they carried with them and then they were interrogated by another State Security officer who did not identify himself and threatened them with deporting them to their provinces and to occupy all the resources they possessed because they had subversive origins. They were also informed that this detention would be the last chance for them to stop their counter-revolutionist activities.
