Activist detained for helping to write anti-governmental signs

On the 9th of April 2016, the activist and independent journalist Carlos Manuel Delgado Espinosa was detained when passing by Calle Maceo, in front of the central park of the Baracoa council, more precisely nearby the telecomunication company ETECSA. The activist was detained by troops constituted by officials of both the Political Police and of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR). The activist was brought to the municipal police station where he was kept detained for 72 hours under heavy interrogation. According to the police, the reason for his detention was identified in the fact that the activist had given directions to someone to write anti-governmental signs in different parts of the city. The activist clearly denied the aforementioned accusations. Moreover, he told the officials, who were interrogating him up to exhaustion, that if they were going to imprison him they should do it for something he had actually done, not by means of lies and deception. The activist was freed only after been given an official warning for not having employment relationship and for allegedly representing a danger for society.
