Mayelin was detained by the agents of the State Security and the National Police while leaving her house. The motive of the detention was to prevent her from participating in Sunday Mass at the Santa Rita de Casia Church organized by Ladies in White. She was taken to the police unit of Candelaria where she remained for more that 7 hours.
