Human rights defender Omar detained in various ocassions



Several times, Omar has been the victim of arbitrary arrest because of his disagreement with Cuban political system. On various occasions, he has been transferred to psychiatric hospital against his will and the will of his family where he got an electroshock. He has been arrested on dates 6.12.2007 for two days for taking part in political activities, from 21.6.2008 to 30. 6.2008 and then from 27.6.2010 to 6.7.2010 for participating in political meetings. Also, on 5.2.2010, Omar was detained for 27 days and on 27.8.2011 he remained in detention center for 14 days for participating in political meetings. From 16.12.2012 to 29.12.2012, he was detained for entering to the police station carrying a poster proclaiming the freedom of an opponent, who was arrested that day. He was taken to the psychiatric hospital where he got electroshock and officers of the State Security assured him that with these electroshock he was going to forget even his own name. By this mean, they wanted to change his way of thinking. The 10.12.2013 he was detained again for 15 days as he climbed on the towers of Captain San Luis Stadium posting slogans in favor of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. After this, he got another electroshock. He was detained on 23.10.2014 for distributing the newsletter The New Republic issued by the Cuban Independent and Democratic Party. On 10.12.2015, he was detained when he and his wife where going to participate in an activity of the Human Rights International Day. He was warned and threatened by Captain Tony that he should never meet the group of counterrevolutionaries ever again.
