José Díaz was detained by the agents of the State Security and the National Police after having participated in Ladies in White activity - a Mass at the Church of Santa Rita de Casia. He was going to lay flowers at the sea to honor the memory of the of victims of the "13 March Tugboat disaster" and of Orlando Zapata Tamayo. he was taken to the Center of Criminal processing known as VIVAC where he remained for more than 6 hours.
