On Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at 8:30 a.m., Lázaro Luis Ruiz Echevarria, a municipal delegate of the Independent and Democratic Cuba Party, was arbitrarily detained. This happened after having received monthly assistance by a human rights defender. Lázaro was captured near the Pediatric Hospital by State Security Officers Lieutenant Colonel Beune and Captain Juan Pérez, they put him in a Lada car and moved him to the outskirts of the city, where he was stripped naked and they took 25 CUC (20 euro) from him that he had received. In addition to the injustice committed, he was threatened and warned that he would be punished and that he could be charged and sent to prison.
